Arts Emergency

I have always been lucky. My parents both work in the film industry and, although they were able to provide contacts and advice in Australia, I found the most helpful thing about growing up in that household was that I knew it was POSSIBLE to work in film and TV. It’s hard – it involves perseverance, poverty and a great deal of luck – but it is possible. It’s not a flight of fancy, despite what some people would have you believe.

I want to make sure other people know this. I want young people to know that it is possible to make a living doing what you love. Or even to do what you love simply for the sake of doing it – career isn’t everything. I also want to help them find the opportunities and people who might not be immediately available. I still have a long way to go in my career (I hope!) but I know I’m a few rungs up the ladder from those just starting out, so I’m happy to give someone else a hand up.
