Arts Emergency

Nikesh Shukla

I always felt like I should have done an arts degree. I wasn’t suited to law. I did it because my parents wanted me to and every fibre of my being waits for the opportunity to do the creative writing degree I always wanted to. Everything I know, I learnt myself and I’m gutted to have missed the opportunity to have studied in a rigorous way, with students all in it with me, wanting to get the best out of my writing. I am an author because there is no other path for me but an arts degree could have prepared me better. I want to inspire people to not follow the paths dictated to them by other forces and choose their own destiny so they don’t have to kick and scream and fight and get as old as I did before their life dreams happen for them.
