Arts Emergency

Noel Douglas

Artist/ Designer/ Lecturer

I come from a working class, single parent family, first in my family to go to university, first to do an MA I understand the difference an arts education made to my life and the importance of the arts generally to peoples development. My whole education was a struggle and I only did it because there were grants and help like local Arts Centres that allowed my to make a new portfolio when I applied for my degree at 22 after 3 years working after my Foundation.

I’d like to help anyone interested in the areas of art and design, my ‘specialism’ is art and design that engages with social and political movements, and the importance of creativity to rebellion and social change.

I make things like massive street murals that celebrate Occupy, create photomontages that attack the 1%, design books, posters, leaflets, t-shirts and badges for various leftie causes that attempt to make them look cooler than Coca-Cola, and get involved in various creative forms of direct action that generally try and promote a saner world beyond Capitalism, a world where everyone can live a creative life. Most recently I have been involved in setting up Occupy Design and been part of Liberate Tate that aims to kick Big Oil money out of the Arts.

I also have 20 years of experience being a working artist and designer and a lecturer in art and design so I can advise you about more normal stuff, like work, money, font choices while we discuss Revolution!
