I was privileged enough to be able to study at university from 2009. I am even more fortunate that, despite moving from Scotland (where I could have had FREE tuition) to England to study, I was supported financially by my parents. I am now able to ‘sing for my supper’ to a certain extent but not in any self-sustaining capacity just yet. I am now a composer for commercials, and my most regular client is the ad agency my dad works for. That might seem nepotistic but everyone has to have a way in” to start with.
This is why I am excited about volunteering: there are obviously good and bad points to this current ‘sharing’ culture of music and media. But I firmly believe that the arts should be fully inclusive and that we should embrace what every single person has to offer.
