I feel that potential BA students should be given more information on possible routes into university education. I was unsuited to the “traditional” route of A-Levels, and am eager to share my experiences with mentees and students who are discouraged from traditional further education. My experience of studying for a Higher National Diploma was invaluable and I would not have enrolled in university if I had not taken that path. From conversations with friends and relatives who are finishing school or know those who are, many seem unaware that there are many more vocational ways of attaining a university place. I would like to help advise students who do not wish to take A-Levels, but who do wish to study for a degree in the arts.
If I hadn’t had the opportunity to study for an HND, I would not have had any of the opportunities that my time at university presented to me. I am worried that many potential students similar to myself will not enter further education because they are unaware of the options available to them.
