Arts Emergency

Sam Pritchard

Theatre Director

I got into theatre directing through my love for new plays and working with playwrights. I used to work as the New Writing Associate at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester, supporting writers and helping them to develop their work and put it in front of an audience.

As a director, the thing that has always excited me the most is an audience sitting down to watch something completely new, unexpected and surprising rather than a classic which some of them will know already.

My work includes a new play by Chris Thorpe called ‘There Has Possibly Been An Incident’ and a revival of ‘Fireface’ by the German writer Marius von Mayenburg.

I’m excited by Arts Emergency because I believe it takes an overwhelming amount of courage, determination and support to make the most risky and exciting theatre and I believe that we all need to our best to give that support to each other.
