Arts Emergency

Payal Wadhwa

I am an experiential designer and cultural strategist. I works comfortably across the spheres of storytelling and narratives, museums and heritage interpretation as well as under the large umbrella of design and design thinking that dictates my formal approach to ideation and creation.

I am the founder of the design and cultural strategy practice, InspireConspireRetire (ICR) that has worked with the likes of Tate Modern, V&A, the Royal Family of Kishangarh whilst having worked as a design consultant for the Greater London Authority (Mayor’s Office), The London Olympics, The Museum of Everything, Ministry of Stories as well as National Museum Delhi and The Amer Fort in Jaipur over the last few years. My work remains centred on making meaning and building cultural value.
To tell the stories I do for educational and cultural institutions as well as brands big and small, I work within the world of spatial design, graphics, film, digital technologies and community urban art projects to communicate and create holistic experiences. A graduate of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and the Central Saint Martins College (UAL) in London, I recently concluded my role as a cultural strategist on the V&A Innovation Management and Leadership Programme in April 2013.

I also practice as a performance artist and scenographer. My recent projects have been shown at Devi Art Foundation, Sarai (The Centre for the Study of Developing Societies), Cochrane Theatre London, The Selfridges Hotel, Cockpit Theatre London, The Art Foundation Athens, BIOS Athens, Prithvi Theatre, National Centre for the Performing Arts, Ranga Shankara, Vinod Doshi Theatre Festival, META and the Jose Thomas Performing Arts Centre.
