We are nearly 13 years into an ideologically driven bonfire of civil society. A bonfire of prospects and possibilities. Throughout this time we’ve seen so many creative university departments merge, shrink, and even close completely. We've watched art, drama, languages and design quietly disappear from curriculums. And we’ve met young people who cannot study the subjects they want because no local sixth form runs them anymore.
It is easy to feel exhausted, angry, overwhelmed and utterly defeated at the unfairness and sheer human vandalism of it all. It's a political choice to do this and so many of us feel powerless to stop it. But here’s the thing...
We truly are not powerless. Arts Emergency is a force of regenerative collective action that churns out opportunity and hope into the world *every single day*.
Despite all the forces of suppression and subjugation we face, there are hundreds of young people who join this organisation every year to unlock their highest future possibilities, and to find their voice, their path and their people.
So this December we're asking you for a donation, if you can spare it.
Next year is our tenth birthday as a charity and we want to use this appeal to fund ten new places on our project in 2023! If you can help, please do one of these two things now:
1) Join our Bursar Club - a small group of people and organisations giving £1,000 a year (or £83 a month) which funds one new place on our programme each year. If you are weathering this storm okay, could you be our next Bursar?
2) If the Bursar Club isn't for you, please give £50 (or your equivalent right now)
Thank you for doing something practical and optimistic in a bleak time! Together, we will fight back with the weapons that austerity cannot steal from us: generosity, imagination, intellect, and optimism.
Please get in touch if you want to give a significant gift, give a donation as a Christmas present, want to amend your monthly donation amount, or fancy a chat!
